DOJ responds to media claim that election investigation over: ‘Not what the Attorney General stated’ 1

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Justice has taken on media outlets who inaccurately portrayed Attorney General William Barr and the DOJ as having found no evidence of election fraud and as having completed its investigations into the contested 2020 presidential election.

An Associated Press news article from Tuesday, December 1st, crowed in its headline:

“Disputing Trump, Barr says no widespread election fraud.”

The article was picked up and widely distributed by multiple media outlets, and users of social media excitedly shared the “news” that there was no evidence of election fraud.

However, semantics tell a different story, for those who read beyond a headline.

Even the original AP article went on to say that Barr’s specific words actually were:

“to date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have effected a different outcome in the election.”

Regarding specific accusations of fraud, Barr went on to tell the AP:

“There’s been one assertion that would be systemic fraud and that would be the claim that machines were programmed essentially to skew the election results.

“And the DHS and DOJ have looked into that, and so far, we haven’t seen anything to substantiate that.”

Again, semantics are king here.  While indicating that the DOJ had not yet uncovered evidence of fraud, Barr did not say that the question of fraud was put to bed.

To their credit, the AP also included words of disagreement from Rudy Giuliani and the Trump campaign team, who countered that “‘with all due respect to the Attorney General, there hasn’t been any semblance’ of an investigation into the president’s complaints.”

The AP also included a statement Giuliani made regarding “ample evidence of illegal voting in at least six states, which [the DOJ] have not examined.”

According to the AP, Giuliani also said:

“We have many witnesses swearing under oath they saw crimes being committed in connection with voter fraud.

“As far as we know, not a single one has been interviewed by the DOJ.

“The Justice Department also hasn’t audited any voting machines or used their subpoena powers to determine the truth.”

However, although the AP contradicted its own headline in the body of its article and provided information that countered Barr’s assertions, a headline-reading public evidently assumed that the question of fraud was settled, and that DOJ involvement in investigations was complete.

Indeed, a quick Twitter search of “Barr says no election fraud” reveals large numbers of tweets proclaiming “Barr says no widespread election fraud.”

Media outlets were largely no better, running with the misleading AP headline as well.

As a result, the Department of Justice found itself having to address the misinformation.

A DOJ spokesperson stated:

“Some media outlets have incorrectly reported that the Department has concluded its investigation of election fraud and announced an affirmative finding of no fraud in the election.”

The spokesperson continued:

“That is not what the Associated Press reported nor what the Attorney General stated.

“The Department will continue to receive and vigorously pursue all specific and credible allegations of fraud as expeditiously as possible.”

For their part, the Trump campaign team has indicated that they will also proceed with their ongoing election fraud investigations.

Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis have said in a statement that the President’s campaign team will:

“continue our pursuit of the truth through the judicial system and state legislatures, and continue toward the Constitution’s mandate and ensuring that every legal vote is counted and every illegal vote is not.”

Giuliani and Ellis added:

“Again, with the greatest respect to the Attorney General, his opinion appears to be without any knowledge or investigation of the substantial irregularities and evidence of systemic fraud.”

Trump campaign spokesman claims Pennsylvania’s presidential election was ‘unconstitutional’ – here’s why

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said the Pennsylvania presidential election was “unconstitutional” and that Republican voters received “disparate treatment.”

He made the comments during an interview with Harris Faulkner on Fox News Channel’s “Outnumbered Overtime.”

Pennsylvania, and especially Philadelphia, has been the epicenter for ire by Republican voters and the target of several high-profile voter fraud lawsuits filed by the Trump campaign.

Murtaugh explained:

“What they did in Pennsylvania was conduct, basically, an unconstitutional election.  Depending on where you were in the state and when you voted, you were treated differently.

“The fact is Democrat voters in Philadelphia were called and said, ‘You better come on in. There might be a problem with the mail-in ballot that you submitted, and they were invited to cast a provisional vote.’

Murtaugh was referring to pre-canvassing ballots before election day. He claims Republican voters were not given the same opportunity to cure ballots as Democratic voters in Philadelphia.  He said that Democratic voters were called by election officials if there was a problem with their ballot and given an opportunity to submit a provisional ballot.

He continued:

“This is before Election Day. That is not allowed. That is pre-canvassing a ballot before Election Day. Republican voters were not given that same opportunity. That is disparate treatment.”

He followed up by saying:

“If you voted in person in Pennsylvania, you were subjected to rigorous security standards: checking voter I.D. … signature matching.

“If you mailed in a ballot, which 2.65 million Pennsylvanians did, there were no such safeguards. You cannot have an election and treat different voters differently within the state.

“That is a violation of the equal protection clause of the U.S. Constitution, and it’s a very serious offense. And absolutely, we believe they are going to prevail on that suit, otherwise we wouldn’t have filed it.”

Pennsylvania has been ground zero for political news, clearly taking precedence over other election-controversial states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Georgia. The Presidential election depends on the outcome of these five states.

In Michigan, the Trump campaign has sued the state to stop ballot processing amid widespread reports of voter fraud.  If successful, this suit would delay the state’s certification of votes in the election.

This lawsuit echoes several others filed in the state outlining massive fraud involving vote-by-mail ballots, ballot counting, and Republican poll watchers being denied observation of the ballot count.

In Detroit, poll workers were seen covering up windows in a convention center to prohibit anyone from seeing inside and observing the vote-counting operation.

Previous suits outline the “glitch” reported in Antrim County, where 6,000 votes were switched from Trump to Biden because of a software program.  The same program was used in most of Michigan’s counties, and in other swing states.

In Wisconsin, similar suits are active.  These suits primarily revolve around manual recount demands in the state where record voter turnout was recorded.

In Georgia, a manual recount was just ordered by that state’s Secretary of State.  Voting “irregularities” center around Atlanta and surrounding Fulton County, and are tied to an inordinate number of mail-in votes for Joe Biden with little or no verification or corroboration.

In Nevada, the Trump campaign has pointed out several glaring issues.  More than 200,000 of the ballots mailed to Nevada voters – without being initially requested – were returned as undeliverable.  Without changing their strategy or voter alignment, ballots were again mailed out to the same addresses and people. 

The Trump campaign has accused Nevada election officials of allowing thousands of non-residents to vote in Nevada and has pointed out an alarming number of dead people casting votes.
