President Joseph Biden spoke in Philadelphia today to discuss “actions to protect the sacred, constitutional right to vote.” While he addressed concerns regarding voting rights, state audits, and the American democracy, Biden compared the election integrity fight pushed by many America First Republicans to the American Civil War, which is known for being the bloodiest conflict on American soil, having killed over 600,000 people.

Pennsylvania elected officials Governor Tom Wolf, Lt. Governor John Fetterman, and Attorney General Josh Shapiro tweeted in support of Biden and H.R.1., commonly known as the For The People Act. The For The People Act would take the election power out of state control and place it directly into the federal government’s jurisdiction. President Biden praised Democrat officials for changing voting rules prior to the 2020 election, as reported by National File.

Conservative commentators, outlets, and politicians pushed back against Biden labeling Republicans as terrorists. Congresswoman Lauren Boebert tweeted “Joe Biden thinks that asking people to show ID to vote is the greatest threat to our nation since the Civil War. Let that sink in.” President Biden said in his remarks that “Trump supporters are worse than slave owning Confederates.”

One day before President Biden’s speech in Philadelphia, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the current voting system is “the worst challenge to our democracy since the Civil War.”
