Nearly two dozen civil rights leaders and black conservatives defended Georgia’s new election-integrity law and blasted the Leftists comparing it to the Jim Crow era.

In a letter sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, several prominent black leaders slammed Democrats for waging a “despicable smear campaign” against the law.

Among the signatories were:

“It has become clear that even well-intentioned critics of the law simply have no idea what the law is,” the letter states, citing several lies peddled by Democratic figures, including President Joe Biden.

The Washington Post even gave Biden “Four Pinocchios” last month for falsely claiming the voting law “ends voting hours early so working people can’t cast their vote after their shift is over.”

Biden also called the law racist, saying it “makes Jim Crow look like Jim Eagle.”

“It is clear they have no idea how favorably Georgia’s new law compares with most other states—including President Biden’s home state of Delaware,” the letter said. “And it is clear they have no idea that a majority of Black voters across the country support the key provision under attack by critics—the simple requirement that voters be able to identify themselves when voting.”

The civil rights leaders also blasted Delta Airlines, Major League Baseball and other corporations that have protested Georgia’s reforms, pointing out that boarding an airplane and picking up baseball tickets also require proof of identification.

The criticisms echoed those of another conservative thought-leader within the black community, syndicated columnist Deroy Murdock, who published a searing rebuke of the Left’s rhetorical overreach last week.

Several other black Americans have pushed back on the Left’s attacks on Georgia too, including Rep. Burgess Owens, R-Utah.

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the Georgia law, Owens said it was “absolutely outrageous” for Democrats to compare election reforms to segregation policies.

“As someone who’s actually experienced Jim Crow laws,” Owens said, testifying before the committee, “I’d like to set the record straight on the myth regarding the recently passed Georgia state law and why any comparison between this law and Jim Crow is absolutely outrageous.”
