The majority of Democrat voters are found to be afraid of the Omicron variant despite all of its cases being very mild. A poll released by YouGov Wednesday found 80 percent of registered Democrats said they are either “very concerned” or “somewhat concerned” about the latest variant.

Only 35 percent of Republicans are feeling the same way. Furthermore, 87 percent of Americans have heard about the variant due to its extensive coverage in the media. This comes despite officials in South Africa and Botswana saying they did not have a rise in hospitalizations or deaths due to Omicron variant.

“The response by some countries to our detection of the Omicron variant is unfortunate as it appears to have caused unnecessary panic amongst the public across the world,” stated Mokgweetsi Masisi, the President of Botswana. “To date all our key indicators remain stable, this is comforting.”

The poll also found the majority of Republican voters, 59 percent, said they are “not very concerned” or “not concerned” at all about Omicron despite the latest media frenzy.

“Democrat poll numbers are cratering, so the White House is stoking up unscientific fears about emerging variants to justify their unpopular policies,” noted Texas congressman Ronny Jackson. “This is a calculated political decision. Where is the science that’s dictating their heavy-handed response to the Omicron variant?”

The Republican lawmaker asserted that the left is simply using this new variant scare to further push lockdowns, vaccine mandates and other coronavirus restrictions. He insisted that the whole thing is political, not scientific.
