Report: Democrat’s socialist talking points, defund police
movement cost them with Hispanic and working class voters 1

Breitbart is reporting that some Democrats are in somewhat of a panic after the socialist agenda of the party elites was exposed by Republicans during the runup to last November’s election as being inconsistent with working class and Latino voters’ values.

According to the report, compiled by three Democrat groups—Third Way, Collective PAC, and Latino Victory Fund, confirms that Republican messaging is making headway with segments of Democrat voters, which “moderate Democrats struggled to counter since some within the Party identify as Democratic socialists.”

The report says:

The socialism attack…hurt campaigns in states and districts with immigrant populations that fled socialist governments, including among Venezuelan, Cuban, Vietnamese and Filipino voters.”

In addition, Republicans experienced success in tying socialist policies of former bartender Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) into the rest of the Democrat field, which made significant impact in swing districts.

“This ‘potpourri’ included efforts to tie candidates to socialism, Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, Nancy Pelosi, AOC, ‘the Squad’ (in these cases all framed as equally radical). These attacks were used to a greater or lesser degree depending on the unique constituencies of a given district,” the report read. “There was no best way to counter these attacks nor was there a clear agreement even that we should address the issue in paid communications.”

The report seems to bear some truth, as most House districts in South Florida flipped red in the 2020 House races due to concerns over socialism.

“Unfortunately, the Democratic Party has in some ways lost touch with our electorate,” said former Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL) to the New York Times.

“There is this assumption that of course people of color, or the working class, are going to vote for Democrats. We can never assume anything.”

Ironically, since Biden was sworn in as president and with their majorities in both the House and Senate razor thin, it doesn’t appear as though the Democrats have learned their lesson. Between talking about packing the Supreme Court to eliminating the filibuster, to DC statehood and federalizing all elections, Democrats continue to govern as socialists.

The Republicans also were successful in portraying Democrats as anti-law enforcement.

“The GOP consistently framed the moment in ‘law and order’ terms, which resonated with voters on both the right and the left, including Latino men and women,” the report read.

“Based on interviews, data analysis, polling and ads analysis, where Defund the Police had a significant impact, it was as a part of culture-based attack on Democrats that sought to stoke fears among voters about any candidate with a ‘D’ after their name.”

The report continued that turnout among Latinos grew significantly in 2020 compared to 2016.

“Turnout among Latino voters grew dramatically in 2020—rising Latino voters by more than 30% compared to 2016” and “In FL—26 Republicans took a big lead in voter registration” which “saw higher turnout among Latino voters and netted more of their support.”

On May 11, Breitbart reported that Catalist election data from last November’s election showed that former President Trump increased his margin with females and all races and demographics compared to his showing in 2016, with the only exception being among white males.

In part, that finding read:

“Along with massive increases in turnout, Latino vote share as a whole swung towards Trump by 8 points in two-way vote share compared to 2016, though Biden-Harris still enjoyed solid majority (61%) among this group.”

The combined Democrat report seems to support that finding.

“Despite increased Latino turnout overall, Democrats saw a significant dip in support in places with high concentrations of Latino and Hispanic voters including in South FL and west TX,” the report found.

That data closely mirrors pre-election data and predictions. Last September, Breitbart reported that only 25 percent of Latinos identify with the Democrats’ racial identity politics, “while more than 50 percent of Latinos favor Donald Trump’s populist, pro-American pitch.”

Likewise, some evidence appears to back that up. Last October, Breitbart’s border reporter, Ildefonso Ortiz and international news editor Frances Martel discussed the increasing popularity within the Hispanic community of conservative ideology.

Both reported seeing the:

“…growing recognition among Latinos that the core of their culture and identity is fundamentally incompatible with the goals and values of the radical left…Mexican culture and values are ‘more conservative than what Democrats present’ and that the approach Democrats take in attempting to mold Hispanic identity to the party’s benefit is ‘the definition of racism.’”

Last November, Law Enforcement Today reported on the 2020 election and spoke to much of the same points addressed in this article. For more on that, we invited you to take a look back and:

DIG DEEPER

WASHINGTON, D.C.- On Thursday, November 5th, just two days after the 2020 presidential election, Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives warned colleagues that promoting and campaigning on a far-left agenda hurt them severely in 2020.

In a leaked Democrat House caucus phone call, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC), said:

“If we are going to run on Medicare for all, defund the police, socialized medicine, we’re not going to win.”

The Democrats’ warning comes as lawmakers attempt to place blame over election night losses, with progressives’ ambitions beginning to emerge as a top target that could hinder left-leaning policies from advancing in the House.

The Federalist reported that the Democrats underperformed in both Senate and House races on November 3rd, losing ground in critical areas such as Iowa and Florida to GOP candidates.

There were a significant number of conservative women included, who ran campaign ads targeting their Democratic opponents for peddling socialism and the defunding of police.

After these losses, Democrats re-directed their efforts into pushing Georgia Senate races into runoffs between Republican Sen. David Perdue and his Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff, as well as GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler and her Democratic opponent Raphael Warnock in January.

During the call, Rep. Abigail Spanberger of Virginia reaffirmed Clyburn’s concerns, claiming that if leftists couldn’t re-evaluate the platforms they relied on for the November 3rd election, that they would lose in a landslide in the 2022 midterms.

He said on the call:

“No one should say ‘defund the police’ ever again. Nobody should be talking about socialism.”

In her own message to House Democrats, Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi told them to focus on an “agenda of lowering health care, better paychecks, and building infrastructure.”

It seems that those ideas are more likely to be appealing to moderate Georgia voters who will essentially decide the fate of the Senate in January. Pelosi said on the call:

“This has been a life or death fight for the very fate of our democracy. We did not win every battle, but we did win the war.”

She added:

“We held the house. Joe Biden is on a clear path to be the next president of the United States.”

Rep. Bill Pascrell jumped in to defend Pelosi, claiming that she had done an “amazing job” and proceeded to shift the blame to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who he claimed has been absent from Democrats’ larger conversation.

Pelosi went on to instruct members to raise any complaints directly with her and proceeded to give out her personal cellphone number.

She said:

“I hope any of you who have something to report or feedback will come to me.”

Rep. Pramila Jaypal of Washington, co-chair of Congressional Progressive Caucus, jumped on the call to defend the liberal ideas, claiming that they are what continues to keep the Democratic base motivated to turn out and vote.

She said on the call:

“If we don’t keep these folks engaged, we will lose again in 2024 and we may lose again in the next midterm.”

Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan also spoke up on the call, saying that fellow Democrats shouldn’t “blame myself and others” for pushing on issues that matter to their districts. House Democrats dropped a net five seats in a cycle in which they expected to flip as many as a dozen.

During the more than hour long phone call, campaigns chief, Rep. Cheri Bustos pointed to polls, turnout models, and prognosticators and said:

“I’m furious. Something went wrong here across the entire political world.”

She added:

“The voters who turned out look a lot more like 2016 than to what was projected. We will do a post mortem.”

Members on the call were warned against leaking the information to the press multiple times. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries explicitly said, “reporters are not your friends.”
