Lawmakers from West Virginia are lobbying their Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) to oppose Joe Biden’s nominee to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

On Tuesday, West Virginia GOP state officials sent a letter to Manchin urging him to oppose the nomination of David Chipman as director for the bureau. The Republicans pointed out that Chipman has “spent decades working in opposition to Second Amendment rights”.

Earlier this month, the National Rifle Association (NRA) released a video also urging Manchin to vote ‘no’ on Chipman’s confirmation while asserting he’s a grave threat to gun owners’ constitutional rights.

After Chipman’s nomination in May, 20 Republican attorneys general sent a similar letter urging the Senate to oppose him. Meanwhile, the date for Chipman’s confirmation hearing has yet to be set.
