SAN DIEGO, CA- While many of the border states are attempting to ward off migrants from overwhelming their communities, California is actually freeing up a significant amount of funds in order to assist migrants.

According to reports, under the Biden administration, as much as $28 million is being freed up in order to help immigrants arriving from Mexico who are being released into the U.S. until their court date.

ABC News reported that the funding, expected to last through June, comes as Biden unwinds former President Donald Trump’s policy to make asylum-seekers wait in Mexico until their court hearings.

It will pay for hotel rooms for immigrants to quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic before going to their final destinations throughout the U.S.

Money also will go to Jewish Family Service of San Diego to provide food, transportation and help with travel logistics. The state will fund health services for the short stays, including COVID-19 testing.

As promised, in mid February, those immigrants who were required to wait south of the border under former-President Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, began infiltrating the the United States as President Biden suspended the program.

It is being estimated that 26,000 people with active cases will be allowed into the U.S., with about 25 people released a day in San Diego, ABC News reported.

H.D. Palmer, spokesman for the California Department of Finance said:

“This is what happens when California and Washington are talking with each other instead of at each other,”

On Thursday, February 25th, the first asylum-seekers who were from the Mexican border city of Matamoros were processed for entry in Brownsville, Texas. Additionally, the processing of migrants began in El Paso, Texas on Friday, February 26th.

Fox News reported that at the same time, the U.S. is releasing more asylum-seekers who are not enrolled in “Remain in Mexico” into the country, as it did for hundreds of thousands of people before Trump foisted the responsibility of hosting asylum-seekers on Mexico in 2019.

Bruno Lozano, mayor of the South Texas city of Del Rio, said in an interview:

“There’s no plan of action once Border Patrol releases migrants in city centers from being detained,”

In February, Law Enforcement Today reported on the fact that Bruno Lozano posted a YouTube video calling on the Biden administration to stop releasing migrants during a winter storm that ravaged Texas. The storm knocked out power and water for several days in many cities. The Border Patrol resumed releasing migrants in Del Rio on February 20th after the cold passed.

Report: ICE to release illegal immigrants deeper into America, away from Texas border cities

February 23, 2021

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX– According to federal law enforcement sources, the release of migrants from detention centers that have too many individuals in the Texas Rio Grande Valley will no longer fall to the Border Patrol agents, but rather on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.

The release of migrants into border communities by Border Patrol agents will be a last resort option. It is reported that this task should only be carried out by Border Patrol officials when ICE is unavailable.

The new policy may bring some relief to local shelters in South Texas border communities located in the Rio Grande Valley depending on where ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officials choose to release the migrants.

The change in procedure is likely driven by increased media attention to the issue. It will likely result in migrants being released away from border communities in the Rio Grande Valley, Breitbart reported.

Transportation costs will become a major factor with this new policy, as it is reported that ICE will transport many of the released migrants away from the immediate border region to family residential detention centers while they await their release.

Family residential detention centers operated by ICE are in smaller Texas communities surrounding San Antonio. It is said that the transportation abilities can not handle moving a large amount of migrants, thus making it likely many of the migrants will remain in the San Antonio area.

This new policy is designed to combat the backlash that was received after ill-timed migrant releases before the massive winter storm that has debilitated Texas.

Law Enforcement Today reported that after Biden signed an executive order that halted all construction of the border wall at the United States-Mexico border, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it would begin processing and admitting at least 25,000 immigrants on February 19th.

As if Texas is not dealing with enough trying to survive the cold, a Texas sheriff confirmed that illegal immigrants detained by ICE are being released into the country without COVID-19 testing, claiming a recent memo issued by Homeland Security Secretary David Pekoske was a move to “defund ICE by memo.”

We recently brought you the story that Del Rio Mayor Bruno Lozano posted a video to YouTube that was a addressed to President Biden, citing his concerns over the ongoing issues in Texas and the current practice of the Border Patrol releasing detainees in concurrence:

“Mr. President, my name is Bruno Lozano – mayor of the city of Del Rio, Texas – and I am pleading and requesting with you to please put a halt to any measures regarding the release of immigrants awaiting court dates, into the city of Del Rio and surrounding areas.”

Mayor Lozano pointed out that the city simply doesn’t, “have the resources available to accommodate,” the influx in migrants that have been released by the Border Patrol in light of the new operational instructions the CBP is functioning under.

Here is that complete story.

DEL RIO, TX – With Texas clearly having severe issues related to the frigid temperatures, the Democratic mayor of Del Rio is “pleading” with President Biden to halt the release of detainees by the Border Patrol within Del Rio and the surrounding communities.

Del Rio Mayor Bruno Lozano recently posted a video to YouTube that was a addressed to President Biden, citing his concerns over the ongoing issues in Texas and the current practice of the Border Patrol releasing detainees in concurrence:

The mayor explained that if President Biden doesn’t come up with a plan quick for these released detainees, then he’ll be forced to use his powers as the mayor to bar the released detainees from the city:

“I will have no choice but use the extreme measure under the emergency declaration as the mayor of the city of Del Rio, Texas to refuse entry of migrants awaiting court dates into the city of Del Rio.”

To put matters into perspective, Del Rio is a city that hosts roughly 50,000 residents – so upward fluctuations in the population in any measure during a period with issues related to water, power and grocery shortages can have a undesirable impact.

During a montage featuring the barren grocery stores in Texas, Mayor Lozano says during the video:

“If you do send these individuals into our community, we will be forced to make a decision to leave them without resources under these dire circumstances.”

“I’m asking you to stop. Please make another plan for this federal issue.”

In an effort to at least see a measure of compromise, Mayor Lozano noted in the video that if President Biden can’t stop the releasing of detained migrants into Del Rio and the surrounding areas – then the Biden administration should provide the means to accommodate the released detainees.

But outside of the aspects related to lacking resources in the forms of electricity, water and groceries – Mayor Lozano also pointed out that there’s issues related to the pandemic with these releases ongoing within border communities:

“This administration has taken a firm stance on COVID-19 protections for Americans. I’m asking you to ensure the health and safety of all our tax paying citizens along the border are treated with the same urgent consideration.”

“Releasing the migrant population without any COVID-19 protection protocols is undermining your commitment to the stance against COVID-19.”

Without mincing his words, Mayor Lozano spelled it out clear as day that with the current pandemic, the release of migrants into the community is just too compounding of an issue with all that Texas is enduring at the time:

“I cannot mix the migrant population with Del Rio residents that are extremely vulnerable and have been displaced due to the extreme weather.”

“We may be a small town that is off of your radar, but we are a community of 50,000 people who need your attention.”

It’s currently unclear whether President Biden, or any relevant person within his administration, has heard the request as of this writing.
